We’re accrediting our founding members now
LDIA is being established, and the first technicians are coming through accreditation. The public register opens as members are accredited. Two ways to get ahead of it:

Assessed against a national standard
Accredited members are assessed against LDIA's competency standard for the detection discipline: the same benchmark in every state.
Bound by a code of conduct
Members agree to accurate reporting, a non-destructive-first approach, and clear referral to licensed trades for any repair.
Insured and accountable
Accreditation requires minimum professional-indemnity and public-liability cover, and members answer to a published complaints process.
The discipline
The methods an accredited technician uses
LDIA accreditation covers the diagnostic methods of the discipline. Accredited technicians locate and diagnose using non-invasive techniques, then hand any repair to a licensed trade.
Acoustic & correlation
Listening for the sound of an escaping leak and pinpointing it along a pipe run.
Thermal imaging
Reading temperature differences at the surface to trace hidden hot- and cold-water leaks.
Tracer gas
Introducing a safe tracer gas so a leak can be detected precisely where it surfaces.
Moisture mapping
Measuring moisture through floors and walls to map where water has travelled.
CCTV / drain camera
Sending a camera through drains and pipes to find breaks, joints and blockages.
Membrane (EFVM) testing
Electronic testing of waterproofing membranes to locate breaches before they leak.
LDIA accredits the detection discipline. Under our accreditation policy, members locate leaks; licensed plumbers and gasfitters carry out repairs. All gas pressure and leak testing and any make-safe work is carried out by a licensed gasfitter, in line with AS/NZS 5601.1.
This describes LDIA's accreditation policy and general information about the discipline. It is not legal advice. Licensing requirements differ by state and change over time.
